Dietary Supplements & Human Performance part.1
Dietary supplement, also known as food supplement or nutritional supplement, is a preparation intended to supplement the diet and provide nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, or amino acids, that may be missing or may not be consumed in sufficient quantities in a person’s diet.
With a complete nutrition plan, which combine all your needs in carbs, fat and protein, you should receive all the nutriments and vitamins you need…in a perfect world. The problem today, is, the quality of foods that we eat and the quality of environment where we live. A lower quality, a lower biodisponibility, more pollution, more insecticid;
Dietary patterns have varied over time. Changes in these patterns are dependent on such things as agricultural practices and climatic, ecologic, cultural and socioeconomic factors, which in turn, determine which foods are available
Those reasons which makes that food is not complete and will not deliver as much vitamins and minerals as it should, creating a relevant micronutrients and macronutrients deficiencies and/or excess.
Normally, we tend to believe that population are adequately satisfied or even exceeded. However, our habits have changed; more stress, less time to eat, we eat more process food (one of my man principle is to avoid, expel or neutralize all chemicals invented by man), etc. By those facts, eventhough you eat really well, the risk of nutrients excess or deficit is high. The recommended nutrient intake will vary, depending on various factors, including being an athlete or a bodybuilder. Your needs will be higher. The approaches used in estimating intakes for optimal health vary and will be need depending of you health condition;

Optimal intake is a relatively new approach to deriving nutrient requirements. The inclusion of foods in the diet which have high micronutrient density, such as legumes, vegetables and ftuids, is the preferred wat to ensure optimal nutrition, including micronutrient adequacy. The variety is also a key point to avoid vitamin and/or minerals excess and/or deficit. Nutrient works in synergy, so dedign your diet so that you receive a complete and proportionate mix of all the nutrients every day.
